Bridging the Mental Health Gap in Ukraine: Expanding Government Cooperation

Mental Help Global continues to strengthen its cooperation with multiple branches of the Ukrainian Government as part of its mission to provide safe, evidence-based, AI-powered psychological support for those serving and protecting Ukraine.

As our collaboration has expanded across different institutions — including the Armed Forces, National Police, emergency services, and other government organizations — we have gained valuable insights into how differently each professional community experiences stress, trauma, operational challenges, and recovery.

One of the most important findings from this work is that there is no universal AI model that can effectively serve every user group without thoughtful adaptation. While the core principles of psychological support remain consistent, the practical needs of a police officer differ significantly from those of a combat soldier, a military medic, a family member of a service member, or a first responder. Their terminology, daily responsibilities, operational environments, decision-making processes, and emotional experiences all influence how they communicate and what type of support is most helpful.

Building specialized knowledge

Our expanding partnerships have demonstrated the importance of continuously developing specialized knowledge libraries that reflect the realities of each professional environment. These knowledge bases include profession-specific terminology and operational context; evidence-based psychological methodologies; organizational policies and available support resources; crisis intervention guidance; communication patterns appropriate for different user groups; and practical scenarios derived from real-world experience.

Rather than relying on a single generalized knowledge base, Mental Help Global is working toward an architecture that allows AI systems to leverage specialized expertise while maintaining a consistent foundation of safety, ethics, and clinical best practices.

Continuous evaluation and improvement

AI systems cannot remain static. As new organizations join the platform, Mental Help Global performs continuous analysis of user interactions, evaluates emerging requirements, and works closely with psychologists, clinicians, government experts, and operational specialists to refine both the knowledge base and the AI’s behavior.

Looking ahead

Every new partnership contributes valuable knowledge that helps improve the platform for all users while preserving the flexibility needed to address the unique challenges faced by different communities. While our initial focus has been on supporting government institutions and frontline professionals, the platform is also being developed to provide accessible, evidence-based psychological support to the broader civilian population.
